Lakeside Park, Chicago, IL

June 5: It's a bit late in the visit, but I've now found some scenes that "speak to me," that allow an easier visual dialogue. Even if it's not the focus, the lake contributes a lot to the appeal of those scenes -- its presence allows me to experience all the rest with some sense of calm and relief. There's something very refreshing about a Great Lake coming right up to meet the downtown.

I made one painting before the sun set, at the park Colette had taken me to. I included, or at least suggested, a couple of people in the scene -- a first for this trip -- partly to highlight my appreciation for the personal interaction that has been the primary focus of this stop.
